Ketamine Therapy for Anxiety/Depression

KETAMINE THERAPY FOR ANXIETY/DEPRESSION

Dr. Joseph Rosado, MD is Certified in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

Anxiety and Depression are two of the most common mental health issues.

These affect people of all ranges, lifestyles, genders, sexual orientations, religions, and ages. For some people, the level of anxiety or depression is mild- an irritating inconvenience- and to some it is a raging storm- debilitating and life destroying.  Usually there are considered 4 categories of anxiety- classified by the level of distress and impairment experienced: mild anxiety, moderate anxiety, severe anxiety and panic. Regardless of the level, anxiety and depression can cause people to try to avoid situations that trigger or worsen their symptoms. Work, school, relationships, and general contentment can be affected.

I believe that life is hard enough, so we don’t need our own irrational fears and brains to make it more difficult. Ketamine Therapy can help alleviate anxiety and depression so someone can live their best life.

Depression and anxiety often go hand in hand. The commonality between these two lies in their neurotransmitters- your brain’s chemical messengers. Something is disrupting or affecting the pathway in the brain that these chemicals help pass through. Ketamine Therapy treats anxiety and depression by quickly increasing levels of a specific neurotransmitter in the brain – glutamate. Depression and anxiety often stem from lower levels of the “feel good chemicals”, so restoring these helps the brain function in the way it is supposed to when working well.  In addition, Ketamine has been shown to develop new neural pathways (neurogenesis is the medical term) and repair damaged neural pathways, allowing the brain a chance to heal.

One of the things I love about Ketamine is that very often, patients start seeing results with the first couple of treatments. Sometimes other medicines can take weeks to months to start seeing the effects of their use and myself and patients get discouraged that the immediate symptoms are not being helped quickly.

My Approach to Ketamine Treatment

The human body is incredibly complex. That means that the right solution for you must be customized and adapted for your very specific needs. Let’s talk about your needs and challenges and come up with the right dosing, delivery and other methods that align well to work with Ketamine treatment. (For example, meditation or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in conjunction with the treatment.)
